Vid: Collateral Murder

Postby Theboss on Thu Apr 08, 2010 8:05 pm

WikiLeaks has released a classified US military video depicting the indiscriminate slaying of over a dozen people in the Iraqi suburb of New Baghdad -- including two Reuters news staff. Reuters has been trying to obtain the video through the Freedom of Information Act, without success since the time of the attack. The video, shot from an Apache helicopter gun-site, clearly shows the unprovoked slaying of a wounded Reuters employee and his rescuers. Two young children involved in the rescue were also seriously wounded. For further information please visit the special project website www.collateralmurder.com.

Wow. I am speechless.
It's a basic truth of the human condition that everybody lies. The only variable is about what.
As you can tell, Einstein is my idol and role-model. While I'm obviously not even close to be as intelligent as he was, I'm still young and still learning.

Yea, their comments really shocked me.
They actually where amused by the dead bodies and where laughing when a tank drove over one.
Damn heartless monsters should be hung.

Welcome to war ladies and gents.... People were just as shocked when footage made the rounds in the 60's from Vietnam. Actually it was footage like this that led to the negative feelings and started a revolution in the 60's. As horrible as this footage is I'm not surprised that this stuff goes on.

Soldiers are seen by most of us at home as heroic boy scouts like in the movies.... In reality a soldier is made to kill and do so indiscriminately if need be, this is their job. They aren't there to make friends although this is what the US government says. This video is merely a taste of the true reality of war, on the battlefield rules of engagement disappear and it becomes kill or be killed. After you've killed many some people develop a taste for it and it becomes easy. This is why you have to cycle deployments and not give the same soldiers in combat several tours all at once. Either they go crazy when they come back and can no longer fit into society or they become bad peace time soldiers.

I'm certainly not defending these actions.... But if you think your nations soldiers wouldn't do the same thing you're sadly mistaken.

Iraq is a pointless war that nobody wants to be in... The soldiers who are there for no good reason and the people that live there and this will naturally cause problems like this which the military refers to as collateral damage.

What problems did these people actually cause? I could understand the first part because I don't know who these people are and what they did, but shooting on a bus that helps a wounded man is crazy.

I know that it's a part of the war but they should be able to separate the enemy from the civilians otherwise they are no better then the Nazis who killed Jews.
What really pissed me off was that they covered it up with articles claiming that they did what they could to save them and no innocent person died by their ill intentions.
I hate people like that more then anything else because they are the reason of why wars start anyway. Every country has them and they are everywhere and IMO these people should be tracked and treated because they are a menace and a threat to society.

I'm certainly not defending these actions.... But if you think your nations soldiers wouldn't do the same thing you're sadly mistaken.

I never said that, I'm just replying to a video that happens to be of the US army. This was on the news today and they said that the Dutch army has a lot of cases like this too (something that I have no problem believing) but there just is no proof for it. Thats why they asked everyone who could to upload to wikileaks.

I've really lost every little respect I had for the people that serve in the military.

The worst thing is that they cover it up.
At the end of the vid you can see newpaper articles of generals claiming that they did everything to save them and no innocent blood was spilt because of them.
